This specimen comes from the gem area where "tanzanite" was first found in 1968. Gem diopside is known from this area to form in fracture fillings in a brecciated and hydrothermally altered graphite-bearing gneiss. The specimen above shows a beautiful gem quality lime green single terminated diopside crystal with very little attached matrix. There is a second much smaller crystal near the base of the main one. Measures 2.0 x 1.8 x 1.4 cm in size overall. Very clean of damage with all edges and termination very sharp. A choice thumbnail!

This is a brilliant loose gemmy bluish-green transparent sceptered terminated elbaite crystal measuring 3.3 x 1.7 x 0.8 cm in size overall. A truly superb "toe-nail" specimen, especially nice for this locality! The Naipa Mine is thought to be working an extension of the famous Muiâne pegmatites. Little material of good quality has come from this region in the past 30 plus years. Very tiny chipping is present on the termination facing what I feel is the back of the specimen. The base of the crystal shows some terminations, some chipped areas. This is a very clean crystal of high quality. Ref: The Mineralogical Record, Volume 31, 6.

Beautiful pale transparent amethyst crystals to 3.7 cm in height are aesthetically set about a very thin 7.8 x 4.6 x 3.8 cm matrix. The main crystals are actually well developed scepters; these show nicely all around and are damage-free. Sits perfectly for display; a gorgeous specimen! Ref: The Mineralogical Record: 34: 55-67.
